A mystery about what remembering costs

Mara follows a ticket from her missing sister June onto a railway that should not exist. Ivo and Sable offer different accounts of the train and its bargains. The story asks whether keeping someone safe is the same as letting them choose. Its themes include grief, memory loss, coercion, and family conflict, without graphic violence.

Read the people as well as the railway

Choices affect relationships and the information available to Mara. A final choice is interpreted through what came before it, so the last button alone does not select an ending. On a first journey, follow the person or principle you find convincing instead of trying to optimise every decision. This guide avoids ending spoilers.

Use the journal to follow a thread

Optional documents add context to the mystery. The journal keeps discovered documents and a record of decisions, so a name or bargain can be checked without starting over. Back rereads the current scene; it does not undo a choice.

Explore another route after an ending

Chapter bookmarks restore the relationships and decisions at that point. Replay from before a choice you want to change, then follow the consequence forward. Previously discovered endings remain in the collection. Across branches, documents, and endings the story contains 37,572 words; that total is not the length of one playthrough.

Make it comfortable

Increase the text size in the reader, turn on the original piano-and-celesta soundtrack if you want it, and take breaks whenever you need. Choices have no countdowns. Keyboard readers can advance with Space or right arrow and choose with number keys 1–4. All routes are free.

What is saved?

The reader autosaves online under a private recovery code stored in your browser. Keep that code private: anyone holding it can read or replace the save. Save & restore can export a backup file, restore a file, open a code on another device, or delete the online save. Use one device at a time to avoid conflicting versions. Internet access is needed for online saving.

How many hours is it?

A first route is about 18,000 words. Your reading speed, pauses, and time spent on documents determine its length. Finding all eight endings takes additional routes or chapter replay; no fixed completion time is promised.

What if a save cannot sync?

Keep the tab open, download a backup through Save & restore, and retry when connected. The reader reports conflicts rather than silently replacing a newer save.
